Academy Motorsport Wins British GT4 Championship on Forgeline GS1R Wheels

Academy Motorsport drivers Erik Evans and Matt Cowley earned the 2023 British GT4 championship with a win at Donington Park, in the final race of the 2023 Intelligent Money British GT Championship Series, on October 22.

Even though the Evans/Cowley duo in the #61 Academy Motorsport Ford Mustang GT4 had also won the previous series race at Brands Hatch, they came into the finale at Donington with only a long-shot chance at the championship. In fact, they were not only 16.5 points out of first place, but they were also facing a BOP time handicap, as a result of their win at Brands Hatch, and they started the Donington race back in the seventh starting position. However, a battery failure in the championship-leading Optimum Motorsport McLaren Artura, driven by Jack Brown and Charles Clark, took them out of the race completely. And then a charge to the front by Evans and Cowley led to a first place finish for the #61 Academy Motorsport Mustang at Donington, and the net result was enough to clinch the 2023 season championship.

The championship-winning Academy Motorsport Ford Mustang GT4 was built by Multimatic Motorsports as a factory-direct GT racing package. It’s powered by a 5.2L Roush Yates cross-plane crank V8 mated to a 6-speed paddle-shifted transmission and rides on an upgraded competition-approved suspension package, Multimatic DSSV dampers, Brembo brakes, Pirelli slicks, and 18×11 Forgeline one piece forged monoblock GS1R wheels finished in Graphite.

Congrats to Erik, Matt, and the entire Academy Motorsport team. And thanks for trusting Forgeline to carry the load!
